Her parents, Charles Conrad Pfeiffer and Comala Rosella Ramser Pfeiffer, shaped her early life. She had four siblings: Lee Joseph Pfeiffer, Charles Worthington Pfeiffer, Sue Anna Pfeiffer Barrett, and Mary Vernetta Pfeiffer. Before she became known as the mother of Tom Cruise, Mary Lee was a dedicated special education teacher. It was during this time that she met and married Thomas Cruise Mapother III, Tom Cruise's father, who worked as an electrical engineer. The family, including the future superstar Thomas Cruise Mapother IV (Tom Cruise), spent time living in Syracuse, New York, and Ottawa, Canada. Despite these moves, the marriage was reportedly fraught with difficulties.
